CHIARA IN PROGRESS
Expat life in Paris

Biologa e appassionata di musica, viaggi e scrittura, Chiara è uno dei tanti "cervelli in fuga" dall'Italia e trova a Parigi la sua nuova casa. Chiara in Progress is the blog where he talks and explains to us that Paris has not become the destination, but the starting point of his new life as an expat.

Welcome to Easy Travel Hosting! Chiara in progress, a blog that tells about your life as an expat, about a Paris that was supposed to be the goal of your projects but turned out to be a launching pad. Can you tell us a little about yourself and the birth of your blog?

My name is Chiara, I was born in Caserta but since 2013 I have lived in Paris. I decided to emigrate abroad to work in biomedical research, but later for me expatriation became a lifestyle rather than a choice strictly linked to the professional sphere.

I have multiple passions, including travel, music and writing. My experience as an expat has pushed me, over time, to talk about it from various points of view, which is why since 2019 I have been collaborating with the choral blog Women who emigrate abroad.

During the first lockdown of 2020, thanks to isolation and the desire to reinvent myself, I decided to expand my passion for writing on the web by designing and creating Chiara in progress, my personal blog.

Describe Paris to us in a book, song and film!

A book it would definitely be Hemingway Moveable Feast, whose title describes Paris perfectly. A song, “Paris” of Après la Classe, because it talks about Paris as a frenetic, magical city, rich in history and music. And even more beautiful at night. Well yes, Paris is exactly like that!

A film, and perhaps I'm being banal, would be the Fabulous world of Amélie, one of the first films that made me dream of Paris as a child.

Among expats there are often people who constantly miss Italy and others who would not return for any reason in the world. What relationship do you have with Italy now and what do you think you gained by leaving it?

I have a love-hate relationship with Italy. I appreciate it and I don't deny my origins, but I don't think I would be able to live there after so many years abroad.

By leaving Italy to follow new horizons, I believe first of all that I have acquired greater maturity and self-esteem. I then overcame limits that I thought were insurmountable, I improved my language skills but above all I improved my relationships, interfacing with cultures, customs and ways of doing things that were very different from the Italian ones.

I understood that the world is a real melting pot of cultures and characters and a constantly evolving work in progress, something that I probably would never have understood if I had always stayed in the same place, surrounded by the same people.

Among your travels, which country did you love the most and why?

Very difficult question, because each of my trips always leaves me something! Among all, I believe I have a particular bond with Spain, one of the countries that I feel closest to my being. On the other hand, I feel a very strong attraction for Northern European countries, in particular for their uncontaminated landscapes and the sense of peace and communion with nature that they transmit.

As you know, Easy Travel Hosting uses renewable and eco-sustainable energy to power its servers. Furthermore, a tree is planted for each new hosting, actively helping reforestation and the absorption of CO2. What do you think of this project and in general, do you think it is important to seek a more sustainable lifestyle?

I find this project really interesting and, more generally, I believe that it is very important to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, even starting from very small gestures.

Climate change is an undeniable reality, and it is our duty to take care of our planet on a daily basis, without waiting for a catastrophic event to definitively change its fate.

If we are truly citizens of the world, we must first of all respect and treat well this world that hosts us and which, delicately, waits to be explored!

Easy Travel Hosting thanks Chiara very much for taking part in our interview.
