L’albero di Barillo (Calophyllum brasiliense) fa parte della famiglia delle Calophyllacee. È nativa delle regioni subtropicali e tropicali del Messico, America Centrale, Sud America e Caraibi. La foglia è usata come medicina per l’ulcera e la gastrite, danni alla prostata, scottature. L’olio estratto è usato nella cosmetica e nella dermatologia (Olio di Tamanu) per pulire la pelle, combattere le rughe e trattare la pelle dopo i tatuaggi.
