Paws on the go
The story of Kyle and Max

First in search of the chimera of permanent work to understand that happiness was elsewhere Paws on the go it's the blog where they talk about their choice.

Of course, even if we don't know where to start. We have been a couple for 16 years and are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. We really have many interests in common such as: the passion for handmade and artistic and creative hobbies, the love for the wild mountain landscapes that we love so much, food (both cooking it and, above all, eating it) but what made us known was our nerd essence. Some mutual friendships brought us together and we never separated again.

We grew up together, we faced everything that life threw at us, from the smallest changes to the biggest, without ever losing hope.

For many years we went from one job to another and from one city to another, following the work and the much infamous "permanent contract" which seemed like a mirage. Until we realized that it wasn't what we really wanted. We took our lives back in hand and started everything from scratch by buying Sirio, our house on wheels, and officially becoming nomads and citizens of the world.

Our project? Traveling and finding our place in the world, bringing information and advice from our experiences to the Zampe in viaggio blog.

The topics we cover are many: how to live, work and travel abroad, in Italy and on the road with relative prices and opinions, how to live while traveling sharing spaces with our animals, the meetings and acquaintances we make while travelling, curiosities about folklore, the magic and traditions of various countries, delicious recipes made in a camper and every new experience we face during our journey "home".

Yes, because in reality, the main reason why we decided to undertake this lifestyle was that we felt "tight". In our lives, in our cities, in our apartments, we have never felt at home...

Do you know that feeling you get when you go on a trip and, at a certain point, you start to feel homesick? Well, we've never tried it.

Indeed, with each departure it was difficult to return. In addition to this, a multitude of questions have always crowded our minds such as, for example:

How tall are Sequoias in Colorado? What will it be like to sleep in Kansas where absolute silence reigns? How beautiful must the Northern Lights be? What's it like to live on a small island? Or, who knows what it's like to work on a farm? What does it feel like to knead bread every morning? How does a shepherd cross the mountains, looking after his flock?

What will New Zealand be like? And Ireland? How much magic will you feel walking in the woods of Scotland? What will food cooked in a Greek tavern taste like? How beautiful it must be to travel around Sicily!

Here are questions that need answers, experiences and above all time.

So, we decided to travel. In this way, in addition to looking for our place, we can live different experiences, see places, meet people and taste food. Because the world is really vast and for us, just a few weeks of holidays a year are not enough for how we want to live it. We prefer to have fewer things, less security and comfort but more time.

The choice to travel with cats is certainly particular: usually many nomads decide to travel with a dog, but we feel that this choice of the cat is more similar to your characters. Can you tell us what it's like to live in a van with them?

Living in a camper with our cats is… like living in a house, basically. Only in a smaller space.

Unlike a dog, you can't always take your cat with you, especially if it is not yet well accustomed to loud noises, too many people and dogs that often hate cats and run around free. So, you try to organize your days so as to spend as much time as possible with them and in the meantime, in small steps, you get them used to the world.

Even if they don't live in an apartment, or in a large house, they still find space to play, to do mischief and to sleep in every corner. They have their own spaces and willingly share them with us. When we are in safe places we take them on our excursions and, in those moments, they are really happy because as with dogs, the important thing for cats too is the time and love you dedicate to them. As regards the affinity with our characters, there is no doubt that the bond with our cats is made of mutual respect and calm, apart from their moments of madness during play.

You are certainly two people who are not only creative but eclectic, with interests that have deep roots. We would like to know what you listen to in your creative moments, and we would also like you to choose one film and one video game among your favorites!

Max: Asking me what I listen to is dangerous, I don't have a specific musical genre, my playlist generally varies from songs from films and musicals I've seen recently, to punk/rock music, especially Green Day, which I love. Then add theme songs from Disney cartoons or songs, reggaeton in Spanish, moments of classical music and pop songs. In short, a small hurricane of everything, without any apparent logic.

As a video game I would say Life is strange, I have also played other titles but I really appreciated the genre, the fact of having a story to follow that changes based on the choices you make, without having the anxiety of boss fights. The film on the other hand was very difficult to choose, I've seen so many... but I would say: Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki.

Kyle: I listen to everything like Max but in my creative moments, generally, I prefer very quiet instrumental sounds or nothing at all. In the sense that I love sounds like the chirping of birds, the singing of cicadas, the flow of a river or simply, the silence because I can concentrate and immerse myself better in what I'm doing.

As a video game, well, I would say The Legend of Zelda, from which our red cat takes its name from the protagonist. I have loved this saga since I was little and I continue to love it, especially the latest releases, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, for Nintendo Switch are two titles that I love deeply.

As a film it's really very difficult but I think The Greatest Showman is the one I feel like choosing. This film is a hymn to diversity, to unity and to chasing one's dreams without giving up in the face of diversity, things that I feel very similar to.

Can you tell us about one trip each and why you chose it?

Kyle: One of the trips that I remember well, and that has remained in my heart, is when we went to Mars Alam in Egypt. It wasn't an adventurous trip with backpacks or a camper but a week's holiday in a tourist village with Max's mother.

During this week, however, we had the opportunity to do many excursions including one through the desert dunes, up to the Bedouin tents.

Riding the quad on the dunes until sunset, sipping mint tea with the Bedouins, living one of their days and observing their dances completely captivated me. But the best part came at the end.

When, in the middle of the night, they turned off every light, leaving us under a sea of stars in absolute silence with only a coyote howling in the distance. That moment always gives me shivers because it reminded me how much, despite the difficulties and harsh trials that life has put in front of me, I love this world.

Max: I don't really choose a trip, more a trip out of town, in our valleys. When we went to sleep at the Danilo Sartore bivouac in the Maira valley, just after Saretto.

I really liked that weekend because it gave me the chance to discover a new place. There at 2440 meters above sea level, there was such silence that you could hear the birds in the distance as if they were close to you and the stars, admired at night, will remain in my heart forever.

As you know, Easy Travel Hosting uses renewable and eco-sustainable energy to power its servers. Furthermore, a tree is planted for each new hosting, actively helping reforestation and the absorption of CO2. What do you think of this project and in general, do you think it is important to seek a more sustainable lifestyle?

This project is one of the best we have come across in recent years, indeed, many should take example from you.

Taking care of our planet is all we can do to safeguard it and planting trees is one of the best ways there is since they are literally our life together with water. We love plants and forests, under which we spend most of our free time, so we are more than happy to be able to contribute to this wonderful project.
