Traveling spinning tops
Ilaria and Claudia's dreams, travels, memories

Spinning tops are the symbol of balance, stable, unstable and indifferent. A simple and complex engineering tool at the same time, built since ancient times, which finds its balance only by moving. Traveling spinning tops is Ilaria and Claudia's balanced blog

I READ THAT YOU ARE TWO TRAVELERS WITH VERY DIFFERENT ATTITUDES, STARTING WITH YOUR ORDER. HOW DO YOU RECONCILE ALL OF THIS DURING YOUR TRAVELS?

C: In life I am "slightly" messy, but not at all in organizing travel. I like to organize it myself and try to know as much as possible about the place I will see and from this point of view I am just like Ilaria. As far as luggage is concerned, fortunately we always have different backpacks…otherwise I might drive her crazy! After all, we even managed to live together for a few months…yet another trip together doesn't scare us at all!

I: On the contrary, I am super tidy, both in life and in travel. I need order to have control over everything. And luckily each of us has separate baggage! It would drive me crazy to share my luggage with anyone. My bags are super optimized and the way they are organized reflects my mental order a bit.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ITALY AND THE OTHER COUNTRIES OF THE EUROPEAN UNION THAT YOU HAVE VISITED?

C: It is not easy to find a single difference as there are affinities and differences depending on the country. I definitely don't think it's good food, as in Italy you eat very well, but I found delicious dishes elsewhere too. History, culture, art, sea, mountains in Italy we have practically everything, but even abroad you can find landscapes, architecture and stories that are different and complementary to ours. Personally, I have always noticed more points in common than differences, but one characteristic that has been pointed out to me several times about us Italians – and that perhaps we ourselves are not aware of it – it is our intonation when we speak. “Let's talk while singing”. With this expression I do not mean that we shout or speak loudly – although it often happens – but that we give a different expression to every word we say. The result is to capture the attention of those who listen to us who are surprised and partly enchanted.

I: In my opinion, however, culture profoundly shapes people. The way of life, studies, food and history that belongs to each country creates a different people. But it is a diversity that enriches us. Every time I travel I am super curious to find out how everyday life activities are managed in that place. What they eat for breakfast, what times do children go to school, how they experienced a certain historical period that we share. I ask all this to local people, I'm super curious about the most banal things of everyday life.

Alicante

THE COUNTRY THAT SNAPPED YOUR HEART?

C: Certainly Spain. I lived for a few months in both Madrid and Alicante and always had a great time. We both consider Spain to be our second home and would jump at the chance to return even just for a weekend!

I: I agree with Claudia. Every time I hop on a flight to Spain, my heart beats. Because for me it's always a homecoming!

WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE YOUR TRIPS MORE ECOLOGICAL?

C: It's not always so easy to travel in a "green" way, but we try to do what we can. Personally, my water bottle never leaves me at work or when travelling, but often in some places it is not advisable to drink tap water. Paper tickets are just a memory – at least when I travel to Europe – Nowadays there is almost always the possibility of having the electronic copy on a mobile device. Whenever possible I always choose the train and once I reach my destination my favorite means of transport are undoubtedly my feet. Only by walking can I fully "experience" the place, perhaps discovering alleys or hidden views that leave you speechless. The world is so beautiful that I just can't understand how anyone can not respect it.

I: Like Claudia, I always have my water bottle with me! If I take food on a trip, I prefer reusable containers or paper wrappers. Furthermore, my cosmetic bag never lacks a bamboo toothbrush and olive oil soap made by me. While travelling, I walk, I walk, I walk. I only take public transport when I need it and always prefer the metro or trains. I no longer use cash, I only have my smartphone with me where I keep all the payment cards and tickets necessary for vehicles and entrances to places.
