Go astray
Adventures and misadventures of Virginia and Gennaro
Traveling isn't always nice, or easy. Traveling means encountering difficulties you have never faced and laughing about them once you have overcome them. Go astray is the blog that tells the adventures and misadventures of Virginia and Gennaro.

YOUR BLOG IS CALLED SVIAGGIATI, AND IT IS A LITTLE BORN FROM PERSONAL MISADVENTURES I AS I UNDERSTAND. CAN YOU TELL US THE REASON FOR THIS NAME?
Go astray because maybe we are a little’ everyone? This name comes from the combination of our misfortunes that have turned into fortunes. We met in 2011 due to Gennaro's sprained ankle and we got married. Virginia has celiac disease and traveling has opened up a world for her. Gennaro has hypertension but he found his cure through travelling. That is, a tramp who travels with little and a traveling celiac is an unusual couple, right?
Our first flight together was in 2012 to Lisbon and we never stopped again. Every year we treat ourselves to trips and organize them without fixed destinations but simply based on the offers, we fly low cost.
The idea for the blog was born from the need to convey to those who follow us that low cost travel is possible and celiac disease is not a hindrance. There is a world to discover about gluten free in the world and then traveling, not only beyond borders, but also to rediscover our wonderful peninsula, is a way to feel free. We are convinced that beyond discovering different places, traditions and cultures, traveling means opening your mind to the new, it means improving yourself, it means knowing sides of yourself that would otherwise never be discovered.
We are like this, go astray, we don't hide our problems, our insecurity, our feeling awkward simply because we are a little’ all gone astray.

WHICH COUNTRY HAS KNOWN YOUR HEART?
All the trips have managed to give us emotions, different but all fantastic and it is always nice to remember them, even if the best trip is the one that is yet to come.
If we really have to choose one, let's say Mexico. AND’ managed to captivate us with its colours, food, traditions and it was something wonderful perhaps because we didn't have so many expectations.
Ten days wandering around the Yucatan peninsula, getting away from the classic mass routes and coming into contact with the local people. Immerse yourself in their culture. Their openness towards us was fantastic despite their problems they managed to make us feel at home. Those people stole our hearts.

HAVE YOU EVER REGRETTED TAKING A TRIP THAT PROVED DISASTROUS?
Nobody, even in moments of bad luck like in New York where on the first day reflex cameras, smartphones and iPods went haywire, leaving us with just one phone for ten days. We carried on with a smile anyway.
In Switzerland on the San Bernardino we were hit by a snowstorm causing us to change our plans. Are these misadventures also part of the journey or not? In Santorini the return flight was changed and we WOW two more days. A unique opportunity.
In Morocco we had our own travel plan but when it changed on the spot it was even more exciting. Traveling is also being good at changing your plans and making immediate decisions.
No regrets precisely because traveling has taught us to face, solve problems and unite us even more as a couple.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE YOUR TRIPS MORE ECOLOGICAL?
Small gestures make the difference, from not throwing anything into the street to respecting different cultures. Simple gestures that you need to start with.
It would be nice to travel without taking the plane since of all means of transport it is the one that produces the most carbon dioxide emissions per kilometre.
But to be able to travel low cost and with a few days available is the only way. On the other hand, we like to walk a lot, we visit cities by walking and there is nothing more beautiful for discovering places, limiting the use of public transport. Next, always with us, we have our reusable water bottles, our fabric shopping bag and we try to reduce waste to a minimum.
Even when choosing hotels we try to prefer eco-sustainable ones. Regarding food, we always try to taste local and gluten-free products and it is also a way to broaden your food culture. If we have to buy souvenirs, we favor artisanal products given that mass tourism causes industrial marketing of products.
We try in our own small way to make any trip as ecological as possible, a responsible trip and respecting other people's cultures.
