Welcome to Easy Travel Hosting! A degree in Economics, one in Philosophy, photographer, reporter, your journey is created step by step, depending on the opportunities that arise. Could you tell us a little about yourself, your travels and how your blog was born?
I have always wondered what I would be like now if my mother, when I was 3 years old, had not given me a beautiful colored globe; or if, when I was 12, he hadn't let me find the Atlas of Legendary Places under the Christmas tree - which to this day is in my library and which I still often leaf through.
Ideas that obviously encouraged me but which, at the same time, acted as a spark lit on a ready pile of wood. Moral: travel as knowledge, research, immersion in everything that is "other" than me is something innate and that I feel belongs to me like a limb or an organ. If it's missing, I'm limping. And I feel like I'm halved.
I need to travel to understand, compare, reflect, delve deeper, share. This is why I always leave the door open to every opportunity, I don't place barriers, I don't cultivate expectations. Amazement and discovery are the cornerstone of all my journeys, however long or short, near, far or yet to come.
The Professione Viaggiatore blog that I created together with my dear friend and colleague Massimo Prosperi - with whom I share the same spirit of travel - was born from the desire to offer the reader an alternative point of view on the places we have visited and crossed (each on their own), giving him the opportunity to live different experiences, to dwell on stimulating details and to follow routes beyond the canonical tourist itineraries, increasing his curiosity as far as the spirit wants to go dare.
In short: there are interesting and worthy places which, for some mysterious reason, are not covered by classic guides but which are able to reserve pleasant surprises. And there are also popular and renowned places of which we try to bring to light the less considered but equally - if not sometimes more - intriguing aspects, providing unusual, unexpected, singular perspectives.
Our senses and their way of "feeling", therefore, are at the complete disposal of those who read us and those who venture into our articles. Everyone. From first to last. Photos included.
On your blog you talk about the art of wandering, can you explain what it consists of?
The dictionary defines “wandering” as wandering aimlessly and without purpose. Real. But in my case, the goal is “having no goal”. Or at least, not a specific destination.
I start by following a direction, a suggestion that life has whispered to me between the lines of everyday life - perhaps through a book, a piece of music, an encounter, an object - and then I let myself be inspired, along the way, by the circumstances that emerge and by the happenings of time, by coincidences and fortuitous cases, by the people who cross my path and who, aware or not, show me a new path to follow.
I like to think that by traveling I close circles and open others, like a chain with infinite links.
Traveler Profession: at what point did you realize that you were no longer a simple tourist but your travels had become, and at what point did you feel you had taken that extra step and become a professional traveller?
When I was about 6 years old, my mother - always the scandal stone, you've understood by now - put a Beatles 45 on my record player. On the one hand, Michelle; on the other, The Night Before. This last song literally drove me crazy. I wanted to know more. I wanted to listen more.
So one day he came home with the Abbey Road tape. An album with the name of a street? Did it really exist? Where was he? So far away? When I grow up – I told myself – I will go there and walk on those same stripes like them.
It was the first thing I did when I arrived in London. The second was to take a train to Liverpool. The third, to spend the night in the basement - closed to the public - of the pub whose walls had been painted by a young and not yet famous John Lennon.
How and why I found myself in that unforgettable circumstance is a long story. It's always, in reality, a long story. Emotion. Experience. Life. The moment you don't look for the beautiful and don't avoid the ugly, but aim for the truth, then you really stop being a tourist and become a traveler.
Or at least that's what it was for me…
What do you do to make your travels greener?
I adopt the same precautions when traveling that I carry out in everyday life. I hate waste. I prefer accommodation within structures that have chosen to use clean energy, organic and local food (such as ecolodges or farmhouses).
I document through photos and interviews the activities of local groups aimed at protecting the environment (such as cleaning the seabed in Aqaba, for example).
I try to fly with airlines that are committed to reducing CO2 emissions. I travel with light luggage. And I don't print tickets, vouchers or boarding passes, only using their digital version.
