Welcome to Easy Travel Hosting! Journalist, blogger, environmentalist and red head. Could you tell us a little about yourself and how your blog was born?

I am a 31 year old, born and raised in Rome, a city that I love and that continues to amaze me every day. I graduated in Linguistics with the dream of teaching but in the meantime I also pursued my passion for journalism, collaborating with a press agency and various online newspapers, dealing in particular with sustainability, travel and technology.
Today I work as a freelance journalist, collaborating in particular with a communications agency and press office.
My blog was born a few years ago: I created it together with my adventure companion, Matteo, and our two little plush owls, Arturo and Gertrude who over the years have become real mascots. In their "honour" the blog was initially called Loveisanowl, while in 2019 it changed its look and name, becoming La Valigia di Gio: a virtual suitcase in which to collect my passions and share travel notes, reviews, emotions, photographs.
I always hope to give the right advice to my readers! I dedicate a large space of this suitcase to sustainability, which represents an essential aspect for me, not only when traveling but in life in general.
In your blog there is a large part about traveling to Italy. In your opinion, perhaps also due to recent limitations, are more obsolete and interesting Italian destinations being rediscovered?
Without a doubt, the health emergency has pushed Italians to remain within national borders. I believe that this in general has allowed us to rediscover destinations "back home", which are sometimes the most unexpected and particular.
At the same time, I noticed a great attention for the mountains and for destinations "away from the crowd", where it is therefore possible to rediscover contact with nature and experience holidays more peacefully.
I take this opportunity in this context to tell you about the project of "Destination Italy”, a guide created by 193 bloggers during the first lockdown of 2020 with the aim of raising funds to support Emergency operators, engaged on the front line of the health emergency, and – at the same time – designed to relaunch tourism and invite you to rediscover Italy.
This guide, born as an ebook for fundraising, later also became a paper guide with Polaris and an audio guide on Loquis. Anyone can thus listen to or read the stories of 300 destinations and all the copyrights always go to Emergency.
The guide was conceived precisely as a journey through all 20 Italian regions: an opportunity to discover little-known places, hidden and unexplored corners of our beautiful country generally not present in traditional tourist guides, with the aim of promoting and relaunching the tourism sector, among the most affected by the emergency.
In the travel section in England I see that you have followed in the footsteps of Tolkien and Harry Potter. Are you a fantasy lover?
What do you do to make your travels greener?
There are many things you can do, also depending on the trip you choose to take.
When I can, for example, I favor the most sustainable means of transport (for example, the train is better than the car, in some cases I have also chosen to do the train+bike combo). The choice of hotel is equally important: I always find out if the structure implements measures to reduce the ecological footprint. In any case, I avoid having my sheets and towels changed daily if it's not necessary, or I avoid taking disposable kits if I already have my beauty case on hand.
For eating, I favor places and restaurants that serve local and organic food and during my stay I make sure to separate waste collection (sometimes I even take the rubbish back home to throw it away correctly!).
Furthermore, my suitcase never lacks a water bottle, which allows me to avoid the use of plastic bottles, while thanks to my smartphone I avoid printing tickets and reservations, using the digital versions of the tickets.
In any case, I always like to remember that to be an eco-friendly tourist it is important first of all to inform yourself, before departure, about the habits, customs and traditions of the place you are going to visit: being sustainable means respecting not only the environment but also people.
