THE RAINBOW GIRL
ROBERTA'S AFRICA
"Chi sono? Sono una sognatrice! Amo viaggiare. Amo esplorare posti nuovi nei quali puntualmente perdermi o trovarmi a vivere qualche situazione surreale." The rainbow girl is the blog that collects Roberta's dreams.

HOW DID YOU END UP WORKING IN AFRICA? WE ARE VERY CURIOUS, TELL US YOUR STORY!
Let me start by saying that I am a rather curious girl. The ordinary bores me easily, which is why I am always looking for new stimuli and new adventures.
Having said that, I have always had a passion for Africa, so much so that, already during my university studies, I had been to Senegal as a volunteer.
However, after finishing university, I got overwhelmed by the loop. First an internship of a few months in a large company, then the permanent employment by the same.
I worked there for almost two years, until last February, when, once the initial enthusiasm had worn off, I realized that I wasn't doing what I wanted. I was living a life that didn't belong to me. So I thought about my desire to travel, to discover and to understand. I thought about Africa.
I immediately started looking for a project and that's how I found them, the people at COMUNDO.
COMUNDO is a Swiss organization that, through the exchange of knowledge and experiences with its local partner organizations, seeks to improve living conditions and strengthen the rights of people in different countries around the world.
In short, to make a long story short, I won the project I applied for, I said goodbye to my permanent contract and I got on a flight to Lusaka to embark on this new adventure.

I LOVE YOUR WAY OF WRITING, DO YOU HAVE ANY WRITERS WHO INSPIRES YOU? HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF WRITING A BOOK?
Honestly, at the moment I don't have any authors who inspire me. Hmm…how did you guess? Yes, writing a book is one of my dreams. To be honest, I even tried before, but then I gave up. But as they say, everything in its time.

WHAT WAS THE MOST EXTREME EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE LIVED IN AFRICA?
Recently, I went with a couple of friends to visit a national park, where we had the fantastic idea of taking part in a canoe safari.
With this small boat, we then ventured down the river, paddling among crocodiles, hippos and elephants.
While on the one hand it is certainly a very exciting experience, on the other I must admit that it is a little scary, especially if you also have that friend who, in the meantime, enjoys telling you about the worst misadventures that have happened.
Anyway, all happy and smiling we continue to navigate the river, not realizing that we are paddling right in the direction of a hippopotamus.
For those who don't know, hippos are highly territorial, so that as soon as we set foot in their area, they don't hesitate to point it out to us.
Now, imagine this beautiful face popping out unexpectedly from the murky water, looking at you, opening its jaws wide and letting out a nice roar, and then disappearing back into the water.
I'm just telling you that I was already ready for the crash. I was ready to be catapulted into the air, before ending up in the water among the crocodiles.
But, as Seneca says, we suffer much more from our imagination than from reality.
In fact, none of this happened. Thanks to a series of coincidences, everything ended well.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE YOUR TRIPS MORE ECOLOGICAL?
I love traveling on adventures. A van, a tent, a backpack and maybe a couple of friends is all I need. My backpack is, among other things, my most faithful travel companion, inside which my water bottle is never missing.
When I travel and camp in the middle of nature, I then do my best to respect the environment around me. Last but not least, before leaving, I usually go to the supermarket to buy only the things that I already know I can't buy along the way, where I can easily stock up on seasonal fruit and vegetables thanks to the numerous local vendors who display their goods along the road.
