A name that has little to do with travel but actually includes much more. Lara's theme talks about dreams, emotions, always documented by lots of photos. Obviously, this is Lara's blog!
Welcome to Easy Travel Hosting! Could you tell us a little about yourself, why your parents named you Lara and the origin of the name of your blog?
The reason why my parents called me Lara and the origin of the name of my blog are closely connected.
Have you ever heard of Doctor Zhivago? The famous cult film of the 1960s was mum and dad's favourite.
It tells the story of an overwhelming, impossible, profound and tormented feeling of the two protagonists, Dr. Zhivago and Lara.
It won 5 Golden Globes and 5 Oscars, including the one for best soundtrack, with the title, ” Lara's theme”.
I'll also add that “Lara's theme” it was the favorite quote of my Italian teachers throughout the school period, because when handing out homework in class, they never missed an opportunity to quote the famous film, and if I remember correctly, someone had even tried to sing the soundtrack.
A memory that always makes me smile.
Could you tell us about your coast-to-coast in America?
I have dreamed of this trip my whole life. I am a fan of films and TV series, most of which are set in the United States; from Thelma and Louise, to Into the Wild, I'm leaving with a madman, Paul, Wild and many others.
These gave me the inspiration to organize the most beautiful, exciting and overwhelming trip of my life!
This trip lasted more than a month. I left from New York, and after visiting the city for a few days, I crossed the Canadian border to see Niagara Falls, I traveled through some northern states up to Mount Rushmore, I toured the great parks such as Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, I traveled the famous Route 66, and believe me, it's like living on a film set!
I was in Las Vegas for a couple of days, a city out of the ordinary, exactly as I had imagined!
I traveled the Extraterrestrial Highway under the scorching sun of the Nevada desert, in the footsteps of the film Paul, in search of the elusive Area 51 (if you are curious to know if I found it, read my travel story on the Blog).
Once I arrived in San Francisco and stayed there for a few days, I resumed my journey south, traveling along the entire California coast passing through Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Santa Monica until arriving in Los Angeles, the last destination of this fantastic adventure on the road.
We have seen your extraordinary photos in America and Africa. How did your passion for photography begin?
My passion for photography was born thanks to my uncle Gigi, a photographer who I admired since I was a child for his perseverance and dedication towards this work. He left us too soon, but his printed photos and slides remain to this day.
This is the beauty of photographs, they never die, they freeze moments, awaken memories and give emotions, this is why I also started, with my first film Polaroid, given to me at ten years old, it was love at first sight, and you know, first love is never forgotten.
What do you do to make your travels greener?
E’ a topic that I still have to delve deeper into, to try to do my part, not only in daily life, but also while traveling. Often we have no choice, like taking a plane to go to the other side of the world, it is not an ecological choice, but unfortunately, for now, it is an obligatory one.
In my daily life, however, I have started eliminating the superfluous, such as plastic bottles. I use compostable materials when I can and I have always done separate waste collection.
When I travel I never buy personal hygiene and cleaning products, but I use the ones I already have at home, and pour them into reusable containers. I shop with fabric bags and this year I started second-hand shopping.
I know the road is still long, but every journey always begins with a first step.
