Capturing The World
Travel Blog for independent travellers
This is Luca, Veneto, he has been over 30 for a while. Yet he never grows up, his head and spirit always remain those of a child in the body of an adult, with his desire to joke. Capturing The World is aimed at independent travelers on the road, as a couple or with children.

WHEN DO YOU STOP BEING TOURISTS AND START BEING TRAVELERS?
There is no specific age, you can understand being a traveler at 18, but also remain a tourist as long as you have the ability and strength to travel. I also talked about it in one of my posts (CLICK HERE TO READ). Personally I believe that going from tourist to traveler is a long process, made up of many trips but which starts from when you start to see destinations with a more critical eye.
Being critical does not necessarily mean seeing everything from the negative side - usually the word "criticism" is associated with the negative meaning of the meaning -. I think that being critical means seeing destinations both in their positive and negative aspects, highlighting their cultural differences. I see it as a personal evolution too.
I think I was a tourist until I went to the agency and had everything organized for me. Then the packaged holiday started to feel too small for me, I needed to discover what was out there, mix with the local people, taste typical food and assimilate the local culture.
One day I came across a book by someone I consider the traveler par excellence, Tiziano Terzani. Reading “a fortune teller told me” opened a new world to me and I understood how I wanted to travel. The "turning point" trip was the one to Florida in 2016. Here I organized everything myself from start to finish, bringing my family with me with a three-month-old baby.
Madness for my parents, a life experience for us.

HOW DOES TRAVEL CHANGE WHEN YOU HAVE A FAMILY?
This is where Silvia, my travel and life partner, comes into play. Traveling as a couple is much simpler, just think about how you dress in a certain season and that's it. But thinking for three or four people is much more complicated. You have to think about having extra luggage and filling it with a thousand things for the children. Clothing suitable for the local season, spare clothes, pyjamas, shoes, games to keep them from getting bored during a long flight. The thoughts increase if you travel with a newborn. You have to think about pacifiers, diapers, bottles and everything that goes with it. And then you have to take into account that there can always be unexpected health problems, and when you are abroad with your children this should not be taken lightly. Nurofen for children and tachipirina are never missing.
After our first daughter we also had to adapt our travel style to a new type of accommodation. Before, the two of us traveled to villages and hotels. Now hotels are only for short one night stays. Mostly now we travel in apartments by booking on a well-known American site. This is because in hotels you don't always have the possibility to heat up some milk at 3 am or go to another room if the baby cries in the middle of the night.
L’ apartment also gives us more flexibility with times, especially with regards to breakfast and dinner. Finally, the fundamental thing is that there is a washing machine and dryer to be able to wash and dry any dirty clothes which, as we know, is frequent with children. Choosing a hotel and not finding a laundry would become a problem for us.

WHICH COUNTRY HAS KEPT YOUR HEART?
Canada. Every time I talk about it or hear it mentioned I get goosebumps. I was there a few years ago and the memory is still alive. I visited the east on an 1800 km road trip by bus, car and train. I found a country with wild nature and at the same time modern in the big cities, climatically cold in certain areas but with a warm and hospitable population. In particular, I was captivated by its wild side in the far east, the one I drove from Quebec City to Tadoussac to see the whales. But the surprising Quebec, with its historical side, and the very modern Toronto also played a fundamental role.
A country that entices you to stay for its beauty, especially that of its large parks. In fact I will return to see the west and the large parks like Banff.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE YOUR TRIPS MORE ECOLOGICAL?
I believe that respect for the environment starts from an early age, which is why we educate our two children to respect the environment, both when we are at home and when we travel. We use our own water bottles and not plastic ones. Just as we leave the places we go as we found them. And we always try to use public transport such as the metro or trams rather than buses, in order to reduce the environmental impact.
