A cup of tea with isotta

Travel and art, This is the concept that Isotta brings us today, author of the blog Viaggiarte.org. We sit virtually with her, sipping a steaming cup of tea and we chat on travel, culture and meditation.

Welcome to Easy Travel hosting! The name of your blog is somewhat explanatory, But you could tell us what emotions and sensations you try to communicate to your readers and why you started this blog of yours?

It was a trip to Southeast Asia to suggest me to open the blog. I was on the island of Palawan, in the Philippines, and I was contemplating the horizon from the boat. Roberto, On that journey my partner (Current husband now, ndr), He asked me what he was doing, I remember answering: “I'm writing”.

I had no paper and pen in those circumstances, I was writing with my mind. And I continued to do it. I wrote a lot during that trip, The words flowed serene. In that state of well-being I realized three conditions gave me a source of euphoria, enthusiasm, pace, and we can also say it, moments of happiness: travelling, breathe art – both creating it and immersing myself in its environment, and drink my tea in silence. From there came Viaggiarte.

After that trip, only, I didn't open the blog. It was the next trip to Southeast Asia that made me decide, I found myself on a boat once again, between the banks of the Mekong River, in Laos. And I said to myself: “Dai, here we are”. In the piece “Whoever stops is not lost” I'll explain how it went, you can read it Who.

I can say that it was born from an internal need. In the travel category I don't write guides with useful addresses, the almeno, I'm not doing it at the moment. I tell my way of perceiving the energies of the lands I encounter, what they can give me, and I try to transmit them to my readers.

With art art much, from information articles to reflection posts. In “Earth” So far I have written several articles on contemplation, that you can live in front of a cup of tea, I still have to start writing of the actual tea. Unconventional…

Emotions are always subjective, But a small community of readers are being created with pleasure to read me, so some pleasant feeling I hope I have transmitted it.

In an article you talk about the twenty years of the beautiful Tate Modern in London, which celebrates with two exceptional artists, that here at Easy Travel hosting we love infinitely. You could talk about these artists and what they represent for you?

We are talking about Louise Bourgeois and Yayoi Kusama. Both I met them as an adult, First Louise and then Yayoi. When Tate Modern decided to celebrate its twenty years with an exhibition them, I thought of taking a plane ticket and organizing a London weekend. Then there was the beginning of the Lockdown, So who knows when we can see this coupled again.

The first time I saw the works of Louise Bourgeois was in 2015, During a trip to Sweden. I found myself in front of his famous “Maman”, and I was moved with beauty. The spider mother for me represents protection, The cure, dedication, will, the embrace, being there.

Per Soultrotters, the encyclopedia of inspirations, digital, which tells the stories of travelers of the soul, I had written a monologue giving voice to this giant artist. It's called “Focus the memory”.
I met Louise again, a New York, and I was struck by the choice of material for his installations. Always perfect, It makes me think of the idea of the universal.

I love Yayoi's choice of lights. She is an eclectic artist, who seems to fear nothing, bold and courageous. In reality, with his works he works precisely with his obsessions and fears. Her polka dots drive me crazy. She could be my grandmother Tullia's oriental cousin, they resemble each other in their colorful style, when I told him we laughed a lot. Immersing yourself in an eccentric installation by Yayoi Kusama gives you a huge jolt of life. Art is also useful for this, no?

And now let's sit down with a steaming cup on our laps. Making silence a form of meditation, of tea a Mindfulness exercise. What does this drink represent for you??

In the first piece I wrote on my blog, that you can read Who, I report a wonderful quote from my Master, Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thich Nhath Hanh: “Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it were the axis on which the earth rotates – slowly, evenly, without rushing towards the future”.

I have made this phrase my mantra. When I drink my tea I am present, I listen to the present, I live in the present. It can even be a few minutes a day, For example, I always dedicate time to this ritual in the morning, but they are moments of connection with me that help me stay focused and not get lost.

Then tea is the drink of travellers, it brings with it years and years of history, research, of discoveries, from China to Japan, from India to Thailand, gives well-being. The tea ceremony is a magical act, takes a while’ time, but it's worth it.

Do you think that art is somehow acting to counteract the climate catastrophe we are facing?

Yes, decidedly.
There are so many musicians, actors, designer, painters, who demonstrate on the front lines of the climate emergency. Björk, i Massive Attack, Jane Fonda who continually gets arrested with her protests, Banksy with his street art, Edouard François with its bioarcitecture, To say some…

But not only by putting us face. The art world is changing the use of materials, more and more ecological and in favor of recycling and reuse. It is no coincidence that many artists now call themselves eco-artists for their eco-art.
