SARA
The heart in the suitcase

A love for travel since I was a child, which is accompanied by a love of reading and art. It is born like this The Heart in the Suitcase , blog where Sara combines these passions of hers, and makes us see his travels through a very particular perspective.

Welcome to Easy Travel hosting! The heart in the suitcase, a very emotional title for a blog that talks about passions. Could you tell us a little about yourself and what prompted you to open your site?

Ciao! I'm Sara and I've always had a passion for travel. I have been working in tourism since 15 years as a travel agent and tour operator. I like organizing trips for clients, especially when they are tailor-made and must be built ad hoc.

My other passion is art and history (I have a degree in Art History) and I always try to give this imprint to my travels. I like discovering history, the legends of a place and visiting churches, Museums and historical monuments, in short, wherever you can breathe art!

After almost a year of work stoppage due to Covid, I thought I'd vent this passion of mine in a blog, where I talk about my travels in Italy, in Europe and around the world, always from this point of view.

But I also alternate trips into nature and the sea, which I love. Being of Sardinian origin, it couldn't be otherwise!

Among your travels we saw that you went to Sri Lanka, a country that fascinates us a lot. Could you tell us your experience?

Sri Lanka is a wonderful country. I chose to visit it with a guide who accompanied us the whole time (the affordable costs allowed us to do so) and it was a perfect decision because in this way we were able to learn about aspects and stories of this country that we would otherwise never have discovered.

Sri Lanka impressed us greatly in many ways: it was the first place I visited in the East and its temples are something indescribable; his story, its archaeological sites are truly suggestive.

But nature is also amazing: we were lucky enough to go on a safari at Minneriya National Park which allowed us to meet hundreds of elephants in the wild and it was a great emotion!

But the thing that has remained in our hearts the most are the people: smiles always and everywhere, even with those who only met a glance, kindness, the tolerance and serenity of their faces.

We still talk to our guide today, who over the days became a friend and became very fond of my girls.

3- The section where you talk about books and travel is wonderful, assigning a destination to one or more books. It is your reading that takes you towards the destinations you choose?

The idea was born from my passion for reading and always wanting to give a cultural and original imprint to the blog. In most cases, it was the books that led me towards choosing a destination: it was like this for Ireland, after reading the medieval saga of Sister Fidelma by Peter Tremayne.

But also Scotland, that I have loved since the first pages of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander saga. In other cases the destination was chosen more instinctively, but on the way back I looked for books that told about the places I had just seen, as if wanting to prolong the journey.

This was the case for the West Coast of the United States, choice almost by chance, after seeing some photos and some films, or to Mexico, whose cheerful and colorful atmosphere immediately enchanted me.

What do you do to make your travels more ecological?

First of all I try to use as little plastic as possible: for example, for my girls I bought ecological water bottles that they always carry with them and we parents also use this solution.

Then I don't print plane tickets or hotel vouchers, to reduce paper consumption. If I am at the seaside I respect the marine environment, I don't disturb animals and I don't collect shells.

In hotels I reduce energy consumption as much as possible, asking for towels and sheets to be changed only if strictly necessary. In the end, lately I've been trying eco-friendly sunscreens to reduce the environmental impact.

I know if we all had little tricks, we would make a difference.
