VIAGGI LOW COST, TREKKING
AND VEGAN CUISINE
Trekking lover, tireless walker, vegan, gluten and lactose intolerant but that doesn't stop her! IndianaGio is the blog where Giovanna tells us about her DIY travels, low-cost and planned down to the smallest detail.
Welcome to Easy Travel hosting! Could you tell us a little about yourself and how your blog was born?
Ciao, I'm Giovanna, and really thank you for the interview. I have dedicated a good part of my life to making art, but in 2007 fate took me away from my country (Romania) and from my being an artist.
I've been living in Italy for years now, a country where I had to reinvent myself and where I discovered the passion for travelling. I travel from 2012 since I met Carlo, the perfect partner, with whom, whenever we have a day off, I leave at’ adventure.
The idea for the blog came to me in 2020 during the lockdown. I have always enjoyed writing and, having already documented everything since our first trip, the transition from pen to keyboard was quite quick.
The aim is to be an example to those of us who like to travel and explore new destinations. The blog talks about low cost and do-it-yourself travel (organized down to the smallest detail) and of nature, since we are big trekking enthusiasts. Furthermore, It is aimed at those like me who are vegan or have food intolerances.

You have chosen a vegan diet and discovered that you are lactose and gluten intolerant. It is difficult to find places to eat on the go or find that the choice of restaurants and in general of food consions to your diet is growing everywhere?
When I started traveling I was just vegan and this never created me problems. Without too many pretensions, wherever I went, I always found something to eat.
But then the gluten and lactose intolerance came and everything has become more complicated. At the beginning, the vegan and gluten intolerant being around the world created me some difficulty because I was not prepared. I managed to win this challenge by continuing to travel and treasured my experiences.
Now, before leaving, I document a lot on the places to go and I always start with some packs of bread and biscuits in the backpack, I choose accommodation with kitchen and, despite being on vacation, I keep cooking.
If years ago veganism and intolerances were almost a taboo, Fortunately today something has started to move and they are no longer. There are many restaurateurs scattered throughout the world who in their small way try to change things and, it will seem strange, But I found more choice in places where I less expected it.
Of course you have to be careful and always ask why, even if you start to find gluten -free products everywhere, Unfortunately, there remains the doubt that there may be a contamination.

We saw the articles on Norway in winter, An on the road itinerary with wonderful landscapes. You could talk about it?
The trip to Norway, especially the part of the isole lofoten, It was one of the most beautiful we have ever done.
The Lofoten islands are truly unique. To explore them, we rented a car that allowed us to be more free in moving and going hunting for the northern light to any hour.
Lofoten I think they are the type of destination that enchants in any season visits them, But in winter they are special and the landscapes have something unreal. Just stay on the E10, The road that connects the fishing villages, To enjoy the beauties of the islands.
Obviously driving there in winter it is not that easy, Because weather conditions can often change by passing in a moment from the sun to the snow storm. In six days we managed to see the most important villages, Several beaches and obviously the northern lights that made the girl out of me who is in me.
I think this destination must be on the list of each traveler.

What do you do to make your travels more ecological?
Being born in a communist country it was a must, at home, be careful of waste of all kinds, And today I still carry behind this habit.
Obviously also in travel I follow the same habits that I have at home: I am careful of waste, I try to make the differentiated, I use biodegradable things as much as possible, I eat vegan and preferably organic, I try to avoid disposable items, I choose eco-friendly hosts where possible, I rely a lot on digital instead of paper and I never leave the house without my friend, the water bottle.
Unfortunately, taking a plane doesn't help the environment, but I try to redeem myself by relying a lot on public transport and also on my legs; in fact for me to do 20 km on foot in a day is almost normal on holiday.
What I do is certainly little, but all it takes is for each of us to try to do something and together we can change the world.
