I SAW THAT YOU LIVED ABROAD. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO RETURN TO ITALY?

I lived 4 years in London and I felt a feeling of love and hate for the city at the same time. I missed the silence of my home. I knew it was time to come back when I found myself running on the subway at the weekend and I didn't have to go anywhere. But everyone runs there.

I needed to find a slower pace of life, more in contact with nature. Coming back was difficult in some ways and therapeutic in others. In Italy we don't have the same job opportunities and a little of that’ I suffered from it and by being away for so many years I lost a little’ of friendships, but returning to Italy was the best thing I could have done. Have a distance of 10-15 minutes drive from work, find silence again, walking in a meadow or in a forest, These are things I missed so much.

YOUR TRAVEL MOTTO IS "LIVE LIKE A LOCAL". CAN YOU EXPLAIN THIS PHILOSOPHY OF YOURS?

Live like a local for me means leaving the comfort zone, don't limit myself to staying in what in jargon is called the “tourist bubble”, the tourist bubble, where everything looks beautiful and glossy. I like to talk to locals if the language allows it, taste local foods, understand the traditions and customs of the place I go to. Travel for me is above all discovery, exploration, contact with a culture different from mine.

TRAVEL AND FOOD, An essential combination?

Travel and food go hand in hand for me. I always try local dishes and then it can happen that I don't like them or that I fall in love with them, as happened in Türkiye and Thailand. I love these two cuisines and I never miss an opportunity to taste them in Italy too. Food represents much more than a simple dish with ingredients, for me, through food we understand many things, including the culture of a people.

For example, in Türkiye offering lokum or baklava to the guest is a symbol of respect and hospitality, as well as offering him a steaming çai. Not accepting it, however, demonstrates closure and can be understood as a lack of respect or appreciation of the gesture. So even behind a simple tea there are very important socio-cultural aspects and learning to understand and understand them fascinates me a lot..

What do you do to make your travels more ecological?

During my travels I always try to be very careful about the waste I produce and try to produce as little as possible to be honest.. If possible then, I try to separate waste even though in many places unfortunately there is no culture of separate waste collection. I purchase and eat zero km products and absolutely avoid any attitude that could damage the environment in which I find myself, like leaving rubbish around or taking souvenirs from the surrounding environment and indeed, to be honest, I can't stand anyone who does that, he shows very little respect for the place and the people he is visiting!
