COME MAI HAI SCELTO L'OLANDA COME NUOVA CASA?

I discovered Holland in 1992, during a holiday which then turned into a residence of more than twenty years, with a five-year interlude in Italy. During that “holiday” I lived in Haarlem, beautiful city not far from Amsterdam.

Here I learned to speak English and then Dutch and I found work as a gardener, profession that I also practiced in Italy. In the land of tulips I learned a lot in my profession and through studies and courses I specialized in ecological gardening, something I still practice in the municipality of the city of Leeuwarden, capital of the province of Friesland.

WHAT IS THE MAIN THEME OF YOUR SITE?

My blog is called antroponatura.com and I deal with topics that talk about ecology, nature and the relationship between nature and culture. At the beginning the articles were in Italian, but then living and working in Holland I started writing in English and Dutch, also to practice this language which is notoriously not the easiest.

TELL US ABOUT THE TRIP THAT CHANGED YOUR WAY OF LIVING

In August of 1992 I left with my "tough" Matra Ranch and a Dutch girl I met in Italy towards Holland. A long and in some ways adventurous and exciting journey, also due to the fact that that car looked fantastic but wasn't exactly reliable mechanically.

At that time I was attracted to the story, culture and nature of Northern European countries and that journey took me inside.

What do you do to make your travels more ecological?

Taking long trips has never really attracted me, I rather try to discover new things in my surroundings, on foot or by bicycle.

This always brings me pleasant discoveries, be they plants, mushrooms, lichens, birds, animals, or wild and abandoned areas where I can climb trees, swimming in the rivers or simply running in the fields, all this without going very far.

The last time I took a plane was in 2007, to go visit my family in Italy. We usually do our holiday trips by car, It's not very eco-friendly, but unfortunately it is a bit far to go by bike in Italy.

Easy Travel Hosting thanks Gilberto so much for taking us into nature with him.
