24 MORE 1 AROUND THE WORLD
THE TRAVELS OF
RICCARDO & GIULIA

Open a business, put passion into it, commitment and also the soul. Then the lockdown arrives and perspectives change. What had been a dream is now something that stops Riccardo and Giulia. 24 MORE 1 AROUND THE WORLD it's their story, the story of two boys who left everything to travel around the world in their camper.

Welcome to Easy Travel Hosting! Could you tell us where the name of your blog comes from and how your love for travel was born?

Thank you! We are Giulia and Riccardo, we are two full-time travelers who left in a camper to travel the whole world together with our two dogs.

24più1 Around the World, the name that accompanies us in our new adventure and on our digital channels, it is an element that keeps us united with our past life.

24Più1 was in fact the name we had chosen for our bar, when we owned one. For us it is the symbol of the two of us united in our couple: 24 it has always been Riccardo's favorite number - also because it is the day of his birth – while I was born on 25. And then the game is soon done: “24+1”, simply us, ma stavolta Around the World.

This could therefore only be the name chosen for our new adventure and for the blog on which we will tell it.
The passion for travel has always united us since our first holiday together in Tenerife, after alone 5 months together, but it exploded with all its force the following year, with our first road trip to the Philippines.

An experience that is anything but simple but that for us was a electrocution. We love this way of moving and the sensations it offers: traveling free from all doubts, The timidations and anxieties of everyday life. It makes us feel free and authentic.

And traveling together on the road is the best for us because we understand each other on the fly, We share the same idea of travel, We help each other and we know we can always count on each other, for everything.

Your business that you have decided, After so much effort and sacrifices, to close to explore the world. What does it mean to make such a decision and how the reaction of friends and relatives has been?

Having a bar of ours was the realization of a dream, but it was also a very hard test: we lived overwhelmed by the many things to do and the impossibility of stopping even for a moment.

Then came the period of forced downtime imposed by the lockdown, and time to reflect. The closer we got to returning to normality, we wanted it the least. Even more so since even on an economic level the recovery after more than three months of standstill was anything but easy and predictable..

So we found ourselves at a crossroads: live a “normal” life or save our history from drifting. We decided that we were the important part, the one to bet on, and we chose to change our lives. A choice far from easy - it meant throwing himself headlong into an adventure without any predefined stake.

We waited to communicate it to friends and relatives a little, In the meantime, asking us how they would react. And we must say that the reactions were very varied.

Some relatives – Even very close - they surprised us: We expected that they criticized our choice by recalling us to the "reality" of "normal" life and instead they supported us very enthusiastically from the beginning. For some, however, the choice was more difficult to accept or - as in the case of the older ones, even to understand.

For example, our grandmothers are keeping track of the days of travel and keep asking us how much longer we will be gone, considering our departure as a holiday rather than a lifestyle choice.

Friends also reacted in various ways. There are those who felt disorientated at the idea of no longer being able to meet often (many were also loyal customers of the bar, and therefore had to both digest our departure, and the change of references of the room) and those who immediately understood our choice and invited us to have the courage to live it to the full.

After a trip like this, do you think you can go back to living in Italy or maybe you will see so many things that it will be impossible for you to go back to your old life?

As we said before, our choice was to leave to travel the world WITHOUT DEFINITING ANY PROGRAM A PRIORI.

Consequentially, we never planned our return – at least until now. At the moment we have only been around for three months and we have still seen very little compared to what we would like. Traveling around the world in a camper takes up a lot of time and for now the thought of returning doesn't really pertain to us.

It will probably take a few more years before we make it an important issue for us. Among other things, we do not exclude the possibility of arriving at a point and deciding that we want to stop there - forever or at least for a while.

In any case, It's really true that you never get back who you left. We already had this awareness from the beginning - so much so that we started by selling our bar and getting rid of everything that could force us to return against our will..

What we are experiencing is certainly changing us profoundly – even simply the choice to live a greener life and all the new experiences we have every day – so even if we were to return home it won't be the same as before, simply because we are no longer the same as before.

What do you do to make your travels more ecological?

The decision to leave in a camper brought with it an important awareness of our relationship with the environment. Living in a camper actually means (as we understand it) be constantly in contact with nature.

We therefore started to question ourselves about the environmental impact of our daily actions and decided to make a green change in our lives.

We have said goodbye almost completely to plastic – for example, we use natural toothbrushes, beeswax sheets instead of cling film, etc – we chose detergents (for us and for cleaning) solid and organic, all without plastic packaging and we take great care to reduce waste – we use personal fabric shopping bags, we fix broken objects.

However, the biggest waste that we have learned to know and contain is that of water. Traveling with a tank instead of having unlimited running water made us discover how much is normally wasted in this sense.

We haven't given up even a fraction of the cleanliness we were used to, let's be clear, but today we make decidedly more conscious use of this precious resource.
