Hi, I'm Claudia, I'm Italian and I've been living in Dublin for three years. “The beautiful spoon” it's the name I gave to my adventure in creating natural soap. On my Instagram page I tell you about my journey in formulating a range of homemade soaps with products inspired by the world of cooking.
I chose the spoon symbol (“spoon”) because it reminds me of the act of measuring the ingredients of a recipe in a simple and spontaneous way, the same kitchen ingredients that I transform into natural solid soap.
This is exactly how I imagine my recipes: balanced enough to respond to the “cosmetic formula” but also simple and intuitive to the point of allowing you to add a personal touch.
How did I start?
My story begins in Paris in 2016 where, after work experience in product developed & marketing in a large company specializing in beauty products, I became passionate about DIY cosmetics. Your beauty routine is an evolving journey of discovery and adaptation. Your skin and hair adapt and react to both the external environment and your internal physiological balance.
In recent years I have lived in 3 different countries (Italy, France and Ireland), I have changed 6 apartments, 4 jobs and, along the journey, my eating habits have evolved driven by my incessant curiosity for discovering new foods and living local.
Many times my skin and hair have shown changes perhaps due to the atmosphere in the new city, perhaps to the changed hardness of the water or the degree of humidity in the air. Each of those times I found myself wondering what was wrong and why that cream or shampoo that I had been using for months no longer seemed to be as good as it used to be. I wondered if I had become allergic to specific ingredients but, time and time again, it was so difficult to identify them on the complicated labels of the products I purchased. One day a friend offered me a box with basic shampoo and soap kits but I still found the creation process too complicated.
There wasn't enough room to express creativity and the ingredients seemed so processed and difficult to find locally. I began to imagine the possibility of creating beauty recipes that anyone could make with the accessible ingredients you find at home or in the local markets in your city. I wanted to contribute to a world where beauty product recipes were simple to understand and transparent.
In 2019, after moving to Dublin, ready to restart that adaptation process that I now knew well, I decided to transform my routine with natural and self-made products. So I embarked on a mission: steal kitchen ingredients and transform them into homemade beauty.
Thanks to a magical encounter in Ireland, I discovered cold saponification and it immediately became my favorite product. Soap is a product that I find to be the most complete in the field of personal care, a sort of cosmetic super food. In fact, soap responds to hygiene needs but its versatile formula can adapt to bring myriad benefits to the skin and, finally, the solid state makes it one of the zerowaste products par excellence as it does not need unnecessary packaging.

Dublin, in the colder months, is often humid and windy. Within the first few weeks of moving I noticed that I had developed dermatitis around my eyes. Needless to say, my cream was starting to bother me a lot. So, one day I left the house looking for a plant: aloe vera. I told myself that I would start again with just one natural ingredient to help my skin get used to the new city.
It was that day that, returning home, I entered the kitchen, extracted the aloe pulp with a spoon and transformed it into an emulsion with the whisk (it was like beating eggs). In fact, if you go and find some photos in the past on my Instagram page (@thebeautifulspoon), my first post is an aloe-based cream.
However, the nature of Ireland gave me not only needs but also inspiration.
I love walking around local food markets and discovering small artisans making good things. On one of my trips to Ireland, I was on the west coast of the Ring of Kerry, I came across a little wooden shop where a kind lady was selling natural soaps that she produced in her workshop upstairs.
I remember asking her: “How did you start making soap?” and she told me that soap was a love project that began when her newborn baby was covered in dermatitis. He had been looking for a way to cure it naturally.
She told me about the afternoons spent in the library, when there was no internet yet, reading books on natural cosmetics and about the day she created the first bar of soap for her baby. He told me that the natural soap had healed him and, the most amazing thing, was that it was made with the same 2000 year old method.
This story spoke to me a lot, I also had dermatitis, and it intrigued me. That's where I started studying cold saponification.

My dream is to make soap the first step towards transforming personal care into a completely natural and sustainable routine. Soap is a simple and intuitive product with a thousand-year history. Yet, its very natural and effective formula made of 3 ingredients (water, oil and soda which, after cold saponification, transform into a salt) has become so rare to find on the market.
Often what we call “soap” and we buy at the supermarket no longer has these natural components. Most modern soaps are made with cleansing ingredients produced in a laboratory.
Every person who tries one of my soaps allows me to carry on this mission because it is an opportunity to share an educational component (what is soap made of? What is the difference between a soap and a detergent?). The beautiful spoon is the name I gave to my journey of discovery that begins in my kitchen. My dream is that tomorrow this “taste”, the test of natural soap, is the first step towards more conscious and sustainable cosmetic consumption.
My journey is still in the research and development phase but, I will give you a little advance, soon you will be able to buy my soaps online on www.thebeautifulspoon.com. In the meantime, follow me on my Instagram page (@thebeautifulspoon). I would be happy to hear your experience with cosmetic products and, above all, take inspiration from your stories to inspire the range of natural handmade soaps.

Searching for a more sustainable life starts with education and the transformation of one's habits. I think we all need the moment when we feel that “click” which leads us to become interested in alternative consumption habits.
The beautiful spoon wants to be a promoter of this moment of revelation in the field of personal care. Easy Travel Hosting can be that instead “click” which will reveal alternative internet consumption. The use of the internet does not seem like a polluting factor to us because we have never heard of it “how hot is a Data Center”.
Instead, every day we see the exhaust pipes of cars, the chimneys of industries and images of city landfills that seem to us to be much more of a priority. I think that a sustainable world does not have an order of priorities, everyone can contribute starting with their own habits.
Many companies are preparing for the future of a more sustainable world and the internet, which is part of this world, should be part of the great project.
